Despite being accused of being an alleged participant in acts of corruption surrounding Petrobras, Mexico’s Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and other parties and organizations members of the Sao Paulo Forum expressed their unrestricted support to former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, who they consider a “bastion” of the progressive Latin American left.
The former Brazilian president, accused by prosecutors of concealing his patrimony and money laundering, was the founder, along with Brazil’s Worker’s Party, of the Forum meant to serve as a mechanism of dialogue between parties and organizations of the Latin American left.
José Irán Moreno Santos, Secretary of International Relations of the PRD, detailed the resolution of the Forum members, which states their solidarity with Lula’s situation and the Brazilian Worker’s Party.
“We (PRD) and the members of the workgroup, consider Lula represents a bastion of the Latin American left. Therefore, we express him our solidarity.”

Resolution of the Sao Paulo Forum accuses that Lula da Silva’s and President Dilma Roussef’s judicial situation is a consequence of a “continental conservative offensive”, that assumes more an more openly it seeks a coup.
The Sao Paulo Forum asserts that in Brazil, an alliance between reactionary and neoliberal parties, business, foreign capital and sectors of the judicial system, attempt to perpetrate a media and and judicial coup.
Furthermore, the leftist parties affirmed that thanks to the policies led by Lula, millions of Brazilians rose from misery, due to which he is the most popular and respected leader in his country.
