RIO DE JANEIRO — The Rio de Janeiro police investigates the disappearance of the Greek Ambassador in Brazil.
Kyriakos Amiridis was last seen on Monday night according to a statement issued by the Brazilian police. A spokesman told reporters that a family member of the ambassador reported him as missing in the city of Nova Iguacu, 25 miles north of the city.
The Greek Ministry has issued a statement demanding “a full mobilization of Brazilian authorities” but did not provide any further details.
Amiridis began his diplomatic career in Athens in 1985 and was appointed to Brazil in 2016, according the the embassy’s web site. Previously, he was ambassador to Libya and worked as Consul in Rio de Janeiro from 2001 to 2004.
