MARRAKECH, Morocco – French President François Hollande says the Paris deal to fight climate change is “irreversible” and says the United States must respect the decision by the Obama administration to join the deal.
Hollande said France will hold a respectful dialogue with President-elect Donald Trump on climate change, but also says he “demands” U.S. involvement on behalf of the more than 100 countries that have ratified the deal.
Trump has called global warming a “hoax” and pledged during his campaign to “cancel” the landmark Paris climate agreement.
