Teachers from the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) placed barricades around their sit-in in the center of Tuxtla Gutiérrez after police tried to break up their protests. The teachers placed tires, sticks and rocks around their encampments to prevent police from entering.
Another group blocked access to the avenue with a public transportation bus whose route had been suspended due to the blockade.
The CNTE had previously informed that as part of their protests to request the repeal of the Education Reform they would take over various public buildings today.
