Johnson was 2 over through 13 holes in the first round when he finished with an eagle and three straight birdies. He then ran off six birdies over an eight-hole stretch Friday.
Moore birdied three of his last five holes on the AT&T Oaks Course at the TPC San Antonio for a 67. He and Johnson were at 9-under 135, three shots ahead of Ben Crane (66).
Sergio Garcia shot 72 and finished at 2-over 146. He is in jeopardy of missing the cut depending on afternoon scores.
