Tigres Beat América During Apertura 2016 Championship Final

The Nuevo León Autonomous University’s (UANL) Tigre’s won the Apertura 2016 championship in a penalty shootout over team América, by achieving a 1-1 tie during regulatory time and winning 3-0 during penalties. Nahuel Guzmán became the hero by blocking all three shoots by America.

After a goalless tie during regular time, America took the lead during extra time. Then, With only two minutes left in the clock, Javier Dueñas tied the score and afforded the Tigre’s the opportunity of winning during the penalty shootout.

During the second half, America developed a frontal attack and had several opportunities in the form of corner shots, which were not effective.

Tigres coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferreti won his fifth title in his career with this win.
