Secretary of the Senate Youth and Sports Commission Daniel Ávila Ruiz announced that he will request that Alfredo Castillo, head of the National Sports Commission (Conade), testify before the Senate to explain Mexico’s bad results at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Ávila Ruiz, who represents the state of Yucatán in the Senate, said that Castillo will need to explain the bad performance of the Mexican athletes.
The senator expressed his disappointment at the elimination of the Mexican Olympic football team, who won a gold medal four years ago at the Summer Olympics in London.
He noted that Mexican athletes have performed poorly in general at the 2016 Olympics.
“We are going to analyze the results of the Olympics once they end,” he said. “We are looking at the results in the short term and the medium term. The Youth and Sports Commission is going to suggest points of agreement between ourselves and the Conade.”
Ávila Ruiz said that Castillo lacks the necessary experience to perform his job as the leader of the most important sports body in Mexican government.
