The management of Pumas is closing a deal on Chilean Nicolás Castillo, a young man of 23 who belongs to Club Brugge of Belgium, and who is an outstanding performer at the Chilean Catholic University team.
Castillo was part of Chile’s starting lineup in their 7-0 victory over the Mexican national team in the Confederations Cup.
Given Paco Palencia’s need to create competition with Eduardo Herrera, who is not having his best playing time, any talks would be a positive for the club, with a fee of four million dollars likely to be accepted.
Because the Santiago native has the freedom to sign with any team, the chances that he will end up with Pumas may not be high, and his original contract with the Belgian club would force him to attend to their request, should they recall him.
Castillo is a reigning Chilean Scotiabank Championship champion and has played alongside Bryan Rabello, another of Pumas’ new reinforcements, in the lower ranks of the Chilean national team, where they formed a great partnership that resulted in four goals in the under-20`s World Cup.
The University of Chile plays in the championship this weekend, where he could become a double champion before arriving in the Mexican capital.
