SAN CRISTÓBAL, Venezuela – In a game with the least amount of scoring, Deportivo Táchira of Venezuela won 1-0 over Mexican soccer club the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) Pumas in first leg of the of the 2016 Copa Libertadores de America quarterfinal.
Yuber Mosquera scored the only goal at the 50-minute mark in the international duel played at Táchira’s home stadium, Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo.
After this result, the Pumas need a 1-0 win for a tie in total score, to advance to the quarterfinal with a two-goal win when the two sides face off in the second leg Tuesday, May 3.
Although the Venezuelans were able to finally push their way to victory, it will be a difficult margin to defend going into the Mexican capital looking to finalize a series that still appears completely open, in order to advance to the semifinal.
The match had to be temporarily halted for a few minutes when a dog came charging out onto the pitch and began leaping playfully around the players.
