Acapulco, Guerrero – Beginning the day at 4 pm, even though he was defending champion, David Ferrer made it clear that his defeat in the second round of the Mexico Open (AMT) was only because he was not playing at his best.

After losing 6-4 6-4 at the hands of Alexandr Dolgopolov, Ferrer justified that “I lost because I did not have a good game, that’s the truth. I have not played good tennis, I did not start my best level but I am calm and I will continue working to find that level.”

The four-time winner of this tournament (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015) said the hot climate was not a determining factor, although normally he is scheduled in the evening or night, but acknowledged its a game for any time of day.

“I am not going to put a pretext for defeat because of the schedule, the organization decided when this will be played and then I have nothing more to say about about it, the defeat was not the schedule but was because the opponent was better,” Ferrer argued.

He acknowledged to be disappointed because every defeat hurts, but not to dramatize his elimination, and above all he avoided mentioning that he missed his fifth title this year but said he hopes to return to the game and still has a lot to offer.
