Their Blessed Work

Experience shows us that whenever we seek the path of privilege for the benefit of a few to the detriment of the common good, sooner or later life in society becomes a fertile ground for corruption, drug trafficking, the exclusion of different cultures, violence and even human trafficking, kidnapping and death, causing suffering and hampering development.
That is what Pope Francis said during the welcoming ceremony offered by President Enrique Peña Nieto in the National Palace. And hopefully, those that felt that they were being alluded to will listen to the words of the head of the Vatican State.
It would be irresponsible to blame all politicians and it’s childish to generalize, but those who favor their own, their closest, or work to benefit only themselves, are to blame for our problems. Those who do not spend their time reaching for the common good, those who don’t offer their talents and capabilities to others, from public office, are jointly responsible for the current sad Mexican reality.
That lapidary sentence will make some reconsider. And if it doesn’t, it will remain as a historical explanation of what daily life is like in our country: A group of unpatriotic people who occupy seats in public offices to benefit themselves and nobody else.
And of course, all those people who do use their power to serve, to benefit others, to transform reality for others, should take inspiration from the presence of the Supreme Pontiff and renew their blessed work.
