Veracruz Governor Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares announced that the state’s public debt is over 56 billion pesos ($280 million), leaving the state in a “financial emergency.”
Yunes Linares called on the sectors who are owed money by the state government to be patient because the state’s financial situation has proven to be more serious than previously thought.
He asked the federal government to support the state with a loan of 3.75 billion pesos to emerge from the states’s 7 billion peso-deficit for the month of December.
Yunes Linares said that the federal government gave 3.75 billion pesos to Veracruz a year ago, during the administration of his predecessor, Javier Duarte de Ochoa, and that the money is even more needed now.
