To celebrate historian Miguel León Portilla’s 90th birthday, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) held a tribute for the 60 years León Portilla has dedicated to the study and appreciation of indigenous cultures.
León Portilla said he was very happy with his time at the university, and says life has been very generous to him with many exciting developments.
In the tribute to the author of “The Vision of the Vanquished,” the rector of UNAM, Enrique Graue, said that León Portilla is “one of the most known and recognized icons of the university” and that he has given “luster and long life” to the university and its international recognition.
To close the celebration, the Eduardo Mata University Youth Orchestra sang ‘Las Mañanitas’ while presenting a slideshow of the philosopher, ethnologist and anthropologist throughout his life.
