Toluca, Mexico – José Manuel Bezanilla Sánchez Hidalgo, visiting deputy of the National Human Rights Commission, said that torture is one of the most serious violations of human rights, while speaking at a conference regarding the new Diploma in Psychological Assessment of Torture and Human Rights, which will be based at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM).
The expert stressed the importance of documenting and making torture visible in order to reduce its occurrence. He stressed that scientific evidence shows that trauma affects the daily functioning of the human body.
He added that this academic program, which will be held from July 1 to November 4, is aimed at advanced students of psychology, as well as teachers, researchers, and psychologists from social organizations and institutions that are interested and work with victims of torture.
The diploma is 126 hours long with sessions on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Department of Behavioral Sciences.
