TOLUCA – The UAEMéx Foundation has granted scholarships to students of the University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) from all around the state. The scholarships range from academic scholarships (32) and need-based scholarships (9) to paid internships and prizes awarded to the winners of the Bridges Made of Sticks Contest (6), hosted by the Engineering Department.
Alfredo Barrera Baca, UAEM’s rector, led the awards ceremony and said that “students granted this honor will forge new values, because they now know the values of solidarity, responsibility and fraternity.” He also praised the efforts of UAEMéx Foundation and its donors.
Humberto Benítez Treviño, president of the foundation, stated that the number of scholarships granted by UAEMéx has seen a 400 per cent increase in the last three years. Public schools level the playing field by providing quality education to low-income students, he added.
Recipients of the scholarships include students and graduates from the Humanities, Political and Social Sciences, Economics, Geography, Architecture and Medicine departments, as well as from the Lic. Adolfo López Mateos Campus, the Huehuetoca and Tianguistenco academic units and the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra.
