Secretary of Extension and Linkage Jannet Valero Vilchis said that alumni from the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) contribute to society with their academic and technical preparation during the ceremony commemorating the 45th anniversary of the graduation of the 1972 Generation of Surgeons.
Valero Vilchis talked about how those that dedicated themselves to medicine have assumed the responsibility of making life better and longer for others. She recalled that the Medicine Department started in 1955 and only had 30 students enrolled. She later made a point of saying how today it has an enrollment of more than 2,200 students in its five undergraduate degree programs.
The head of the Medicine Department, Salvador López Rodríguez, reminisced about several moments, teachers and administrative staff who worked in the seventies and who were a fundamental part of this generation. He also said that this generation had to perform the National Examination of Medical Residences, to study a specialty. At the end of the seventies, the department had well over 600,000 students and due to this the first admission exam was performed. This was the first of its kind to be performed at the UAEM.
