Residents of Tezonteopan de Bonilla, Puebla threatened to hang two robbery suspects, aged 20 and 17, Monday. They then lit fire to two police patrol cars in protest.
According to accounts, the community refused to hand over the suspects to authorities, as in the past the police has been involved in crime.
The vehicles belonged to the Huaquechula municipality, in which Tezonteopan is located.
Citizens said that the suspects had stolen horses 15 days prior and even though they had been aprehended, were later released.
