In Coahuila, 33 municipalities will receive help to improve or expand houses. Coahuila
Coahuila Urban Management Secretary Gerardo Garza Melo said that the housing program aimed at low-income people will start in May, thanks to the resources allocated by the federal, state and municipal governments totaling 386 million pesos ($20.8 million).
State Gov. Rubén Moreira Valdez will soon announce a series of housing programs which will benefit different social groups, said Garza Melo.
“There will be a budget amounting to 386 million pesos for social housing. The program is being developed by the National Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) and the Housing Fund of the Institute for Social Security and Services for Government Employees (FOVISSSTE). But there is also a similar amount allocated for the housing program being developed by the federal, state and municipal governments, which will be about the expansion and improvement of homes,” said Garza Melo.
“This program will be aimed at families living in over-crowded conditions. The idea is to provide an improvement to their quality of life by building a new bedroom, bathroom or replacing shoddy roofs with concrete ones for them,” he added.
There are 33 state municipalities involved in the project, which provide resources. After analyzing and determining who will benefit from the program, the construction of the houses will begin in May.
The “One More Room” program is being promoted by the Agricultural, Land and Urban Development Secretariat (Sedatu) and aims to reach about 500,000 households across the country in 2016.
