Mexico City – State police officer, Alberto Juárez Carmona, 42, who was injured during the clash with the suspected members of an organized criminal group in the municipality of Tixtla June 4, has died at the Chilpancingo General Hospital.
The security spokesman of the Guerrero Coordination Group, Roberto Álvarez Heredia, said in a statement that Juárez Carmona died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday as a result of gunshot wounds.
He said that during the confrontation between state police and suspects there was an exchange of bullets and a grenade. Police chased a white vehicle containing two individuals who had shot dead two young men in the vicinity of Baltazar R. Leyva Mancilla, Chilpancingo.
Juárez Carmona was part of the Public Security Secretariat’s Special Forces Unit and had served almost 10 years for the force.
Álvarez Heredia added that Juárez Carmona had undergone surgery but his life was unable to be saved.
The state government expressed its regret and extended its deepest condolences to the family of the officer.
