Jorge “N” was arrested on suspicion of murder after his wife’s body was found and forensic work revealed signs of asphyxiation and a violent death.
Tamaulipas State Attorney Irving Barrios Mojica said that Pilar Garrido Santamanas went missing on July 2, but it wasn’t until the July 3 that her husband reported her missing.
According to Barrios Mojica, there were several inconsistencies in Jorge N’s testimony. On July 26, Garrido Santamanas’ body was found with signs of asphyxiation and lesions on the neck, skull and nose. Jorge N claimed that his wife was a victim of organized crime violence, however, her injuries were not consistent with criminal groups’ modus operandi.
There was enough evidence for a judge to sign a warrant for Jorge N’s arrest.
