A riot that started Tuesday night at a prison in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, led to a shooting that lasted until the early hours of Wednesday. Seven were killed and 13 were injured.
Three guards and four inmates were killed, while six policemen and seven inmates were injured.
Inmates managed to get ahold of weapons and engaged in a shootout with prison authorities. After the shooting, authorities say that they found two assault riffles hidden inside the prison.
This is not the first time that events like this have taken place in the Ciudad Victoria prison. It is one of the most problematic jails in the country. This due to the fact that Ciudad Victoria is ruled by the Los Zetas cartel, one of the most violent cartels in Mexico.
Three months ago, a fight left three inmates dead, which led to a riot during which a group of inmates escaped through a tunnel that they dug in the prison yard.
