The Treasury and Public Finance Secretariat (SHCP) announced Thursday that gasoline prices will rise by about five percent at the beginning of August.
The price of a liter of Magna gasoline (standard unleaded gasoline) will rise from 13.47 pesos ($0.71) to 13.96 pesos, an increase of 56 centavos. Pemex Premium gasoline will rise from 14.37 to 14.81 pesos per liter, while diesel will rise from 13.77 to 13.98 pesos per liter.
According to SHCP, the August 2016 prices for Magna and Premium gasoline will be about three percent higher than they were in August of 2015, but the price of diesel will be about 1.5 percent lower.
SHCP said that the gasoline price increase is due to the international recovery in crude oil prices.
Notwithstanding monthly price increases, average prices of all three types of fuel between January and August 2016 remain lower than they were in the same period in 2015.
