MEXICO CITY — The Mexico City government reported that service for Metro Line 2 of the Public Transport System (STC) will resume for the section between stations Tasqueña and Xola during the course of the afternoon, Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Works and Services (SOBSE), the work of supporting the unevenness of Circuito Interior and Calzada de Tlalpan is progressing, with the installation of a 26 inch metal beam and three struts, that will secure the infrastructure of Line 2.
More than 60 people have been working at the site, reinforcing the existing structure, within three 20-inch tubes.
Instructed by Mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa, the head of the SOBSE, Edgar Tungüí Rodríguez, is maintaining a permanent supervision at the site where he reiterated that “the infrastructure of the Metro is safe and unaffected. However, as a precautionary measure, an additional strut is being added to secure the stability of passing trains on Metro Line 2.”
The procedure, that took place in the early hours of the day, necessitated the use of a crane with a lifting capacity of 10 tons to mount the 8.9-meter long beam, the same that will be supported by three tubes, seven meters high.
In addition, free service was provided along the route with 200 vehicles of the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) for users in both directions between Xola-Tasqueña, in an operation with transit officers of the Public Security Secretariat to expedite traffic in the area.
The Mexico City government thanks the population and general users for their understanding, after the measures were taken for their safety.
