Deputies are concerned that Mancera is too busy campaigning

The Senate wants Mexico City Mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa to appear before them in order to explain the crime in the city after armed forces took down the leader of the Tláhuac Cartel, Felipe de Jesús Pérez Luna known as “El Ojos.”

National Action Party (PAN) Deputies Ernesto Cordero Arroyo and Gabriela Cuevas Barrón put Mancera Espinosa’s recent campaign agenda into question.

“Just three weeks ago Mancera said that there were no drug cartels and that Mexico City was a paradise. It’s not true. We have drug cartels and organized crime operating in Mexico City and as long as we keep ignoring this, it will only get worse ,” said Cordero Arroyo.

“I hope this doesn’t turn into an everyday problem, because the mayor has decided to campaign instead of governing the city. His priority should be his present duties,” said Cuevas Barrón.

Morena Deputy Mario Delgado Carrillo said that instead of allocating resources toward the National Governors Conference (Conago) Force, Mancera Espinoza should focus on Mexico City.

“It’s concerning to see the mayor giving away patrol cars in Acapulco and Ciudad Juárez. There’s a total disregard for security, while the mayor is doing publicity for himself and giving away the city’s resources,” said Delgado Carrillo.
