Guillermo González Engelbrecht, general manager of the San Miguel de Allende Tourism Council, said that the municipality was visited by more than four million domestic and foreign tourists during 2015. San Miguel de Allende is located in the state of Guanajuato and is part of the “Magic Town” federal program, which promotes a series of towns around the country that offer visitors a “magical” experience – by reason of their natural beauty, cultural riches, or historical relevance.
With the help of this municipality, Guajanuato managed to move from seventh to sixth place in the list of tourist destinations with more influx of visitors nationally in 2015.
In order to increase tourist visits from Monday through Thursday, the San Miguel de Allende Tourism Council is working on a strategy to promote business tourism, said González Engelbrecht.
Mayor Ricardo Villarreal García announced that four five-star hotels will be built during 2016 in order to consolidate San Miguel de Allende as one of the tourism destinations with the most efficient services.
