Mexico City is offering free public transit to discourage driving because of dangerously high ozone levels

MEXICO CITY — Because Mexico City continues under a Phase 1 Contingency to due high levels of atmospheric ozone, service will be free on the Metro, trolleybuses, Metrobus, the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) and the Light Rail through Wednesday, March 16.

Public transit services have been free in the capital since noon on March 15.

As part of the measures taken to reduce the high levels of pollution in the Valley of Mexico, cars with red stickers (plates ending in 3 or 4) may not be driven between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., regardless of hologram number (1, 2, 0 or 00).
