Aurelio Nuño Mayer, head of the Public Education Secretariat (SEP), announced that the agency will soon sign agreements with several public and private universities in order for them to train teachers.
The goal of the Teachers Performance Assessment is to improve education in Mexico, said Nuño Mayer. The details of the new training strategy for teachers will be made known on March 7 and will be designed to be of high quality and relevant, allowing teachers to improve on their performance so they can score better on subsequent evaluations.
The previous budget allocated to teachers’ training was 200 million pesos ($11.1 million) and in 2016 it will be more than 1.8 billion pesos, said Nuño Mayer.
“We are transforming the entire education system, starting from the political organization. It was essential that the government recovered the democratic decision on education issues, so that it can improve on them,” said Nuño Mayer.
On his Twitter account, Nuño Mayer congratulated teachers for their performance on the assessment.
