While launching the National Fundraising for the Mexican Red Cross, President Peña Nieto called on the Mexican society, governments and all sectors to take an active part in helping reach the goal of raising 350 million pesos.

“The moment has again come for all Mexicans to mobilize in favor of the Red Cross. Its time to give back a little of what it gives to society, now is the time to support those who support us”, he said.
After thanking and congratulating the 43,000 volunteers, doctors, nurses and all who are part of the Red Cross for the help they bring to the population, the president applauded the institution’s effort to expand its action towards prevention of diseases and accidents.
He underlined that the Red Cross needs the participation and co-responsibility of citizens to take care of its own health, as well as stressing the importance as a society of adopting healthier habits and behaviors.
In this respect, he welcomed the agreements signed between the Public Education Secretariat (SEP) and the National Education Workers Union (SNTE) to capacitate teachers in firs aid training, allowing to teachers to assist students in case of an emergency.
The president highlighted the selfless work of the Mexican Red Cross in the whole country. He stated as an example that, in 2015 alone, the organization was present during the menace of hurricane Patricia, the tornado in Ciudad Acuña and during the winter season that affected various parts of the country, as well as delivering more than 500 tons of humanitarian help in benefit of over 110,000 people.
“Many Mexicans have been saved, have had the required medical attention in times of need thanks to the Mexican Red Cross”, he stated.
Peña Nieto said that Mexico should be proud of having exemplary citizens, anonymous heroes that watch over the lives of others as the members of the Red Cross does.
The president delivered 80 ambulances and one rescue vehicle to various state boroughs for the benefit of the whole country.
An ambulance transfer can cost up to 2,200 pesos. The Mexican Red Cross is responsable for approximately 8 out of 10 ambulance services in the country, free of cost.
