Mexico’s National Polytechnic University (IPN) will open roundtable discussions Tuesday morning to try to resolve the conflict that has completely or partially halted activities at 11 of its 19 vocational schools since last week.

The roundtable was planned in a three-hour discussion between general director of the IPN Enrique Fernández Fassnacht and members of the Polytechnic General Assembly (AGP). Two students from each affected school will participate in the roundtable so that the general director can hear their grievances. However, Fernández Fassnacht said that he thinks the priority is resuming classes so that the semester can end on time.

Students organized with the AGP closed the schools after jurisdiction over the universities came under the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) in early April.
