The Megalopolis Environmental Commission (Came) announced that the Phase 1 Environmental Contingency for ozone will continue in the Valley of Mexico metropolitan area.
The Commission further explained that the central region of Mexico continues to be in a high pressure zone and that stable atmospheric conditions are likely to continue. These conditions favor low wind, which mitigates the dispersion of air pollutants.
At 10 a.m. Friday, ozone air quality was “good” in the region, but “bad” for suspended particulate matter in the North-East, specifically in the municipality of Ecatepec, which was measured at 105 points, according to the Metropolitical Air Quality Index (Imeca).
The Commission activated Phase 1 of the Environmental Alert due to the very poor air quality, meaning that today vehicles with holograms 1 and 2 with blue stickers and plates ending in 0 and 9 and holograms 1 and 2 ending in even numbers cannot circulate.
The Commission will conduct another round of measurements Friday and at 3 p.m. will emit an informative bulletin on meteorological conditions and air quality in the Valley of Mexico.
