Based on Article 20 of the National Code of Criminal Procedures, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has exercised the power of attorney to investigate the violent events of the night of July 22. On that date, in a part of Michoacan close to the Guerrero border, Major of Pungarabato, Guerrero, Ambrosia Soto Duarte was killed.
The Deputy Attorney of the Specialized Investigation of Organized Crime (SEIDO), contacted authorities in the states of Guerrero and Michoacan, who initially dealt with the case, in order to integrate the pieces of information readily available to bring about a clarification of the facts. During the killing, two members of the Federal Police who had been providing protection to the mayor since April were injured.
Since the assassination, the PGR has reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and attempts to combat impunity as essential conditions for a peaceful Mexico and the development of every region of the country.
