JUCHITÁN, Oaxaca – After two years of implementation, energy reform is beginning to show its benefits and results, said President Enrique Peña Nieto.
He announced that the costs of energy-consuming industries in the country have decreased by 39.4 percent, in trade 23.5 percent, in high consumption domestic use 8.7 percent and 4 percent in the homes of low consumption.
“In all segments of the population and there is electricity consumption has been reduced electricity rates, which is what is allowing this? the implementation of the Energy Reform, which today has opportunity for the private sector to participate in projects as we are today inaugurating that contribute to generating electricity, repeat, more efficient, cleaner, respectful and friendly to the environment and especially cheaper,” said Peña Nieto.
The president went to Oaxaca to inaugurate the Central Wind Southeast 1 in phase 2, which had an investment of 157 million dollars. He explained that this project is part of the modernization effort carried out by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to have clean and non-polluting energy. As with the energy reform, both CFE and Pemex will enter a phase of increased competition with the private sector.
Peña Nieto added, “The energy reform has that goal, has this central purpose, to promote development, promote the modernization of our country, support the economy of Mexican families and in the end being a producer of modern energy to the height of the major developed world and especially with a workforce as that of the Federal Electricity Commission, committed to being part of this process of transformation and modernization that has productive enterprise of the state.”
The president announced that for the second quarter of this year, the CFE will launch an auction to commission a project of power transmission from the Itsmo de Tehuantepec to the center of the country, with a private sector investment of over a $1.2 billion.
“There are 85 major infrastructure works that are today boosting 30 states, representing investments of over $26 billion. That is exactly what is leading the energy reform,” said Peña Nieto.
For the president’s visit to Oaxaca, teachers of Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) headed by its leader Rúben Nuñez, they protested by making blockades.
On arrival at the Military Air Base, the president flew by helicopter to Central Eólica, from where he could see the traffic caused by teachers’ protests whose discontent is with the education reform.
