In a speech early Wednesday afternoon, President Enrique Peña Nieto announced that recent gas hikes are due to a rise in international gas prices, and not a decision based on economic reforms.
Peña Nieto assured that the government will try its best to maintain economic stability despite the rise in prices. However, he added that this requires cooperation from the public and abuse or theft of gasoline will not be tolerated.
He said this after announcing Luis Videgaray Caso’s return to his cabinet as Foreign Relations Secretary (SRE). He told the new secretary, who had recently left his role as Treasury and Pubic Finance Secretary (SHCP), to get in contact with Donald Trump’s administration.
