MEXICO CITY – “Some people think the same as in 1938, that Pemex will not succeed and will lose relevance, however, as it was 78 years ago, doubts of a future for Petróleos Mexicanos are wrong,” said José Antonio González Anaya, director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
The message was delivered during the celebration of the 78th anniversary of the Oil Expropriation.
González Anaya said, before President Peña Nieto and Pemex workers, that to meet the challenges of the future, the adjustment by 100 billion pesos includes guaranteeing the security of workers facing labor and financial commitments and to pay outstanding debts to providers.
“The adjustment has been generated in three lines of action: the first is to reduce costs and create efficiencies, the first step will be to contact the corporation starting with its CEO, also they eliminated two corporate departments, the human resources and technological research and development, and its most important substantive functions absolved in other areas, but all Pemex workers have to contribute to this adjustment,” said Anaya.
He clarified that investment projects will not be canceled, they are only going to be reconsidered.
Meanwhile, for the union leader for the oil company, Carlos Romero Deschamps, the trade organization has acted serene and maturely to the complex situation experienced by Pemex, despite the supposedly persistent demands for the dismissal of thousands of workers.
Romero Deschamps reiterated the support of the union in this transformation process for Petróleos Mexicanos.
