Parliamentary factions of the National Action Party (PAN) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) in the chamber of deputies formalised a request for a political trial against Veracruz governor Javier Duarte, for embezzlement, corruption, as well as the number of kidnappings and murders occurring in the state.
In their request, the legislators from the PAN and PRD pointed out that impunity could not prevail in the face of constant violations of human rights, the wave of violence and the embezzlement of 35 billion pesos detected by the Federal Auditing Agency during Duarte’s administration.
The deputies reminded that only in 2014, the auditing agency detected possible embezzlements of 14 billion 47 million pesos in Veracruz.
This figure, the legislators said, makes this state’s government the most corrupt in the country.
Duarte, however remained defiant in social media, saying that “for every hit” against him would tweet a result of his term in office,
Por cada golpe voy a tuitear un resultado. #Veracruz

Speaking on the political trial, PRD deputy coordinator Francisco Martínez Neri commented that the behavior of Veracruz’s governor left much to be desired.
The deputies requested that a subcommittee of preliminary examination be installed to analyse if the political trial against Duarte should proceed.
Legislator from the opposition demanded that Javier Duarte de Ochoa return to the Veracruz treasury the money embezzled between 2011 and 2014.
