National Action Party (PAN) President Ricardo Anaya Cortés warned that there exists overwhelming evidence against current Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa. He stated that there would be no revenge, but that the impunity that the Mexican people were so tired of would not be allowed.
“We say this with all clarity, there will be no revenge, but there certainly will be justice. The case of Veracruz is extremely serious, the Federal Auditing Agency (ASF) has documented embezzlement for over 35 billion pesos ($1, 878 billion dollars). In one account alone nearly three billion pesos we taken out in cash. The people are tired of corruption and of those who are corrupt getting away with it.”
Anaya Cortés added that the ASF has documented the Santander banking account from which these huge quantities were retrieved, and that people were tired of “turning a blind eye,” of nothing ever happening, of talks of always moving forward. The leader of the PAN concluded that building towards the future was the goal, but that the past could not go unpunished.
