The State of Mexico Environment Secretariat collected 319 tons of electronics and tires in 29 recycling drives, preventing them from contaminating water and soil.
Armando Salazar, director of Citizen Participation, said that the material collected included 159 tons of electrical appliances and 160 tons of tires.
He explained that the tires will be reused to manufacture shoe soles, rubber floors, synthetic sporting fields, asphalt and waterproofing.
In a statement, Salazar added that electrical products are delivered to certified companies that utilize the components.
Salazar mentioned that a recycling drive is currently being carried out in the municipality of San Antonio la Isla, where items can be dropped off at the Fourth Regency collection center from June 5 to 23.
