Interior Secretary Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong took part in the National Debate over the Use of Marijuana, where he gave his opinions and shed light on his experience with the substance. The National Debate is made up of five different forums in which the secretary make several different comment on the matter.
“I have never smoked this substance. I have never smoked, because I don’t even know how to take a hit, just to make that clear,” Osorio Chong claimed during the third forum of the debate.
The interior secretary also talked about his strategies and outlook on the problem. “Policies on drugs cannot just be limited to putting out the fire, but should focus on preventing the fires from starting,” he said during the first forum.
Osorio Chong said that the problems caused by the sale and abuse of drugs cannot be stopped by force, but need to be prevented by interventions specific to the issue and because of this the Violence Prevention Program was put into effect three years ago.
The fifth and final forum will take place on April 5 in Mexico City.
