Aurelio Nuño Mayer, head of the Public Education Secretariat (SEP), said that in 2018 President Enrique Peña Nieto will deliver an education system radically different from the 2012 one.
“It will be a system that will allow Mexico to create the human capital required through a process which will allow us to raise productivity and maintain significant levels of economic growth and, particularly, welfare,” said Nuño Mayer.
Speaking at the 11th Mexico Private Capital Summit, he said that the coming reform will be sweeping.
During the event, organized by the Mexican Association of Private Capital, Nuño Mayer said, “This is a reform that will transform the political organization of the education system. It will transform schools, creating a new Mexican school which will include an ambitious infrastructure program. It will also seek to professionalize and train new teachers and transform the subjects taught.”
The new study programs and plans will be released to the public in April and will have three components. They will aim to provide new knowledge and skills in order to lead Mexico to become a high-income country.
The new programs will also seek to implement teaching methods beyond memorizing, in order to allow students to learn and to promote values such as freedom, pluralism and respect for the rule of law”.
