The National Fine Arts Palace awaits confirmation from the family of the singer Alberto Aguilera, better known as Juan Gabriel, that his remains will arrive in the Palace for a homecoming ceremony.
According to the Director of Public Relations at the museum, one of Juan Gabriel’s children, Iván, confirmed to General Director of Grounds María Cristina García that the singer’s body had been cremated in the United States.
“Basically they are in the process of deciding,” she said. “We already have confirmed that the remains were cremated in the United States and that — if thats what the family decides — they will arrive at the Palace. We are just waiting on news from the family.”
Meanwhile, hundreds of the singer’s fans are congregating in front of the Palace waiting to say their last goodbye to their idol.
Between photographs and tears, fans sing and shout his name. “Juan Gabriel lives forever!”
Although it is yet to be known whether the homecoming will happen, the fans say they will continue to wait for a last goodbye.
Juan Gabriel died last Sunday due to a heart failure. The Mexican government immediately offered to open the doors to the Palace of Fine Arts so that the public can say goodbye.
