Motorcycles will be exempted from the Hoy No Circula restrictions that have been placed on other vehicles by the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe), announced the president of that body, Martín Gutiérrez.
In an interview after a meeting with legislators from the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), Gutiérrez pointed out that motorcycles are only responsible for two percent of NOX emissions, which means that their contribution to ozone production is “marginal.”
He also clarified that vehicles delivering perishable products will only be allowed to circulate between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. every day, even if they have federal plates.
Taxis will have special permission to circulate every day between 5 and 10 a.m., but after those hours they will face the same once-weekly restrictions as other vehicles.
Vehicles driven by disabled people, hybrid and electric cars and natural gas-operated vehicles will be completely exempt, as well as public transit, ambulances, hearses, garbage trucks, police cars, school transportation and vehicles transporting harmful materials.
