More than 1,200 Take Part in the Doctor's Day Run

The competition forms part of the activities to mark Doctor's Day and promote sports and healthy lifestyles

More than 1,200 runners took part in the Commemorative Athletics Race for Doctors’s Day, “Transform Yourself Through Exercise”, organized by the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of the State of México (UAEM), and the Mexican Social Security Institute of the State of Mexico and its Municipalities (ISSEMYM).

Winners of the men’s 10-kilometer distance were Fernando Maya Estrada in the General Public Category with a time of 32 minutes 36 seconds; Israel Vega González in the Students and Graduates Category, with a time of 37 minutes. In the women’s 10 kilometer distance, winners were Lourdes Ponce Juárez in the General Public Category, with a time of 38 minutes and 17 seconds; Ciclali Ososio Lechuga in the Students and Graduates Category, with a time of 40 minutes and 25 seconds.

Winners of the men’s 5-kilometer distance were Juan Ortiz Castro, in the General Public Category with a time of 17 minutes; Óscar Jiménez Moreno with a time of 19 minutes and 28 seconds in the Students and Graduates Category. In the women’s 5 kilometer distance, winners were; Mariana Lorena García in the General Public Category with a time of 23 minutes 24 seconds; Leslie Miranda Torres with a time of 23 minutes and 18 seconds in the Students and Graduates Category.

Included in this year’s edition were wheel chair, children, pregnant women, runners with pets, and elderly categories, that attracted around 200 participants who covered s two-kilometer section of the course.

The award ceremony was attended by Alfredo Jaramillo García, the director of the Faculty of Medicine, and the director of Sports at UAEM, María Sánchez Coyote. Also in attendance was the secretary of university rector, Hiram Raúl Piña Libien.

During the ceremony, Jaramillo García emphasized the importance of physical activity in aiding a healthy life, as well as UAEM’s traditional support of the day.
