MEXICO CITY — A new version of the 3de3 (Three out of Three) anti-corruption law passed by the Senate will return to the Chamber of Deputies, who will review the bill in committees before presenting it to the general body.
The original law was vetoed by President Enrique Peña Nieto.
Chamber of Deputies President Jesús Zambrano Grijalva said that the bill will be reviewed by the Transparency Committee first.
Zambrano Grijalva said that he expects vigorous debate over the bill.
“I anticipate that there will be differences of opinion, there will be debate, there will be hours of discussion,” said Zambrano Grijalva. “But then, there will be a vote, and the majority will make the final decision.”
Pedro Luis Noble Monterrubio, a deputy for the Revolutionary Institutional Party (PRI), said that the Chamber of Deputies may do as the Senate did, and accept the bill as it was proposed by the Executive without modifying it.
“It all depends on the content of the Senate bill,” said Noble Monterrubio. “We need to remember that this bill originated in the Senate, and it’s likely that the Chamber of Deputies will pass it without modifications.”
