To celebrate World Bicycle Day, which the majority of countries celebrate on April 19, the Government of Mexico City will hold the Grand Cyclist Round in Los Venados Park, with a route of 16 kilometers, Saturday April 15th.
The capital currently has the second highest amount of bicycle lanes in the country, at 35 miles.
The Sunday “Bike Ride” brings together an average of 55,000 attendees and bike loans, mechanical services and physical activation classes.
In the magazine, Vive CDMX, of the Government of Mexico City reports that the bicycle is one of the favorite means of transport of the citizens and to promote its use is a recurrent theme in the government’s agenda.
From April 19 to 23, the capital will host the sixth World Bike Forum (FMB6), where specialists, cyclists, artists and civil organizations from Mexico and the world will participate.
It is intended to be a platform for dialogue on issues of mobility, the use of public space and cycling culture under the theme “Handmade Cities” (Ciudades Hechas a Mano).
At the inauguration of this sixth edition titled “Handmade Cities,” 50 South American cyclists will arrive at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and special activities will be organized.
To celebrate 200 years after the invention of this sustainable means of transport, the Legislative Assembly of Mexico City declared 2017 the year of the Bicentennial of the Bicycle, an action that is complemented by the sixth edition of the World Bike Forum.
The local government also offers children from five to 14 years of age a Bike School where they can their bike riding skills with classes taught by qualified instructors.
The registration for this activity is free and includes the loan of the vehicle, helmet and vest. The Pantitlán Children’s Bike School is located in Talleres Gráficos, Agrícola Pantitlán and is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In addition, as part of the new mobility system of the Historic Center, the service of cyclotaxis is provided, through which the general public can be transported to various cultural and recreational locations from the Zócalo.
The cyclotaxis have an authorized cost of between 20 and 40 pesos, intended to be a more affordable eco-friendly option for domestic and foreign visitors. The service is offered from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
