The Tax Administration Service (SAT) opened fiscal audits on five Mexican governors, including Veracruz governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa. Aristóteles Núñez Sánchez, director of SAT, revealed that Duarte de Ochoa is under investigation but did not identify the other governors.
Núñez Sánchez said that the investigation into Duarte’s finances could take as long as two years. The investigation stems from claims that his activities as government may have violated tax law.
There are 10 public officials in Veracruz who have been involved in creating shell companies that received money from the state government, Núñez Sánchez revealed in an interview.
