Magdalena Contreras Borough to have a Climate Action Program

The Magdalena Contreras borough published the Climate Action Program Tuesday, which seeks to maintain or increase the quality of life of the borough’s inhabitants, in addition to supporting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Mexico City.

The Official Gazette stated that the program records the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, only by sources of fuel emission in vehicles of the delegation.

It pointed out that after a vulnerability analysis, various mitigations and adaptations were established, among which were to persuade borough officials not to use motor vehicles, evaluate, redesign and improve the routes used by waste collection workers and improve urban mobility.

The program explained that the borough also plans to implement solar energy systems in recreational spaces and develop awareness campaigns to eliminate so-called “light thieves.”

Among the actions, the program proposes to create spaces that strengthen social cohesion and the improved dissemination of information, promote a culture of prevention around global warming and hold competitions for children on the subject.

The program proposes to increase the size of spaces where greenhouse gases are absorbed, to increase the number of trees, to rescue areas of environmental value and to safeguard conservation areas.
