Labor Party (PT) senator Ana Gabriela Guevara Espinoza announced the arrest of Antonio Lozano Pineda. Lozano Pineda is president of the Mexican Federation of Athleticism and was arrested for the alleged embezzlement of more than 4 million pesos ($196,290).
Guevara Espinoza, a 2004 Olympic silver medal winner in Athens, recalled that she had denounced his embezzlement nearly three years ago.
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) arrested Lozano Pineda in the Mexico City International Airport.
“It’s an important precedent that is being set in Mexican sports. In much of the sports world there is a lot of embezzlement and stealing of funds,” said Guevara Espinoza.
She explained that Lozano Pineda had used fake receipts and banking documents to hide the movement of funds.
