Legislator Urges For Precautionary Measures to be Taken During Summer Months

Given the increase in gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases, it is necessary to take extra care of children and the elderly, who are at more risk of falling ill, said the President of the Federal District Legislative Assembly for the Attention to Child Development Commission, Penélope Campos González.

The Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) legislator said that during the summer season, children are more vulnerable and have a higher possibility of suffering from serious dehydration, heatstroke, respiratory and digestive problems.

Campos González said that it is necessary to take precautionary measures, like avoiding taking part in physical education classes between 12:00 am and 4:00 pm, when the sun is at its peak hours.

It is also important to stay hydrated and wear appropriate clothing. Parents should dress children in lightweight clothing in light colors.

“Children should avoid eating in the street, because food is a big source of bacteria and parasites,” Campos González said.

She concluded by saying that parents and caregivers should be on the lookout for signs of illness. If someone experiences vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pains, fever, coughing or trouble breathing they should receive immediate medical attention.
