In a column for the Mexican newspaper El Universal, journalist Carlos Loret de Moya said that sources had told him that starting in July, all vehicles will be able to circulate daily if they are carrying more than three adults. Vehicles carrying three or more adults will also be able to use fast lanes for free. The goal of the policy is to incentivize car-pooling.
Loret de Moya only identified his sources as high-ranking local and national officials from the Environment and Natural Resources Secretariat (Semarnat).
Loret de Moya said that the official announcement will be made next week.
