Journalist Pedro Tamayo Rosas was killed Wednesday in Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, when an armed group fired at Tamayo Rosas outside his home.

The State Commission for the Care and Protection of Journalists (CEAPP) vigorously condemned the murder and its staff has remained in constant communication with the journalist’s family, providing them with advice and support.

The CEAPP made an appeal to the authorities responsible for the administration of justice relating to the prompt clarification of the facts surrounding the murder of Tamayo Rosas and the identification of the criminals.

Interior Secretariat (Segob) Human Rights Undersecretary Roberto Campa lamented the crime and acknowledged that journalists in Veracruz face a lot of risks when doing their job.

So far, there have been 17 journalists killed in that state during Gov. Javier Duarte’s administration.
